1600 Whiplash Compensation Claims Settle Without a Solicitor
Speaking recently at the Motor Accident Solicitors Society Annual Conference, Nick Gunter, head of technical claims at Fortish Insurance, confirmed that in the first six months of 2007 Fortis Insurance settled 1600 whiplash and other personal injury claims with accident victims without any solicitor involvement.
The insurers find these claims to settle by contacting the other driver in circumstances where their own insured driver has caused an accident. Offering compensation without using a solicitor saves the insurer having to pay any legal costs on top of the compensation to the innocent accident victim. But do the insurers make a fair offer of settlement? Nick Gunter stated at the conference that as far as he was aware none of these claims was undersettled and Fortis received no complaints. However, the question remains that how would a non legally qualified member of the public be expected to know if the offer they were receiving is reasonable or not? Only an independent legally qualified solicitor could ever advise appropriately.
