Man in £300K grape claim
Alexander Martin-Sklan, an accountant from Golders Green in London is seeking £300,000 in compensation after claiming that he injured himself after slipping on a grape during a shopping trip to Marks & Spencers.
Martin-Sklan sustained a torn tendon in his leg after falling in the car park of his local branch of Marks & Spencers in 2004. He claims the piece of fruit had become stuck to his shoe either inside the store or in the car park and therefore the retailer is liable.
The claim includes both general damages and lost earnings; Martin-Sklan claims that he suffered a loss of confidence and depression following the fall, which caused his work to suffer. He also claims that his leg injury prevented him from partaking in regular sport, thereby proving detrimental to his lifestyle.
Marks & Spencers are contesting the claim.
